John Rice, PhD is Managing Director at Cincytech, LLC, a venture development company focusing on seed venture capital investment. He leads the life science practice, and he is a co-founder and former Managing Partner of Triathlon Medical Ventures, both based in Cincinnati.
He has 31 years of venture investing, and 13 years of research and R&D management experience in biomedical science. Dr. Rice has strong relationships in the scientific community from the 26 years he spent in biomedical research and R&D management at Battelle and Senmed. He was a Managing Director of Senmed Medical Ventures from 1989 until 2003.Previously, Dr. Rice spent 13 years with Battelle Memorial Institute serving in various research, research management, and business development capacities.
Dr. Rice is a member of the Board of Enable Injections and Blue Water Vaccines, and Chairman of Airway Therapeutics, Xact Medical, Genetesis, Kurome Therapeutics and Eccrine Systems. He has served previously as Chairman of Myonexus and Standard Bariatrics, and on the boards of Aerpio (ARPO), Akebia (AKBA) (Founder and Chairman), Kereos, Syntherix (CEO), CS-Keys, as well as an observer at Endocyte (ECYT) and Colucid Pharmaceuticals (CLCD). He is a member of the Board of Directors of Meridian Biosciences (VIVO). He is Chairman of the Investment Advisory Board of the Harrington Discovery Institute. He serves on the advisory boards of the Innovation Fund at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. He is a past member of the board and past chair of BioOhio, BioStart, Neurotech Innovation Translator at OSU, the Industry Advisory Board of the Case - Coulter Partnership at Case Western Reserve and the Board of the Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center at the Cleveland Clinic. He has authored numerous scientific publications, and he holds patents in the fields of virology and immunology.
He earned BS, MS and PhD degrees in Microbiology and Virology from The Ohio State University.
