World leaders in science, medicine, and academia gathered in Cleveland for the fourth annual Harrington Scientific Symposium.
The symposium opened with Harrington Scholar-Innovators Nicole Calakos, MD, PhD, and Darren Carpizo, MD, PhD, sharing personal insights on their experiences with Harrington Discovery Institute and the Innovation Support Center. This was followed by a presentation from keynote speaker Peter Agre, Nobel Laureate, MD, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor and Director, Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The first evening concluded with a dinner at the historic Ballroom at Park Lane to honor our Harrington Scholars, where Scientific Advisory Board Member Solomon H. Highlights from the second day of the symposium include a reflection from Andrew I. Schafer, MD, on the challenges of a physician-scientist, and a presentation titled “Lessons from Global Health” by Tadataka “Tachi” Yamada, MD. Dr. Yamada spoke about his personal experience as former President of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Global Health Program, and he reflected on the importance of urgency, innovation, and measurement and partnerships in advancing medicine globally.
