In May 2018, leaders in science, medicine, and academia traveled to Cleveland, Ohio for Harrington Discovery Institute’s 6th Annual Scientific Symposium. During this two day event, Harrington Scholars from institutions across the US and UK had the opportunity to network with one another and with other leaders in science and industry, and present their work to the Harrington community.

The first evening commenced with 2016 Harrington Scholar-Innovator Nunzio Bottini, MD, PhD sharing remarks about his experience as a scholar. The Keynote Lecture, titled “Catalyzing Translational Innovation”, was given by Christopher P. Austin, MD, Director of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences - National Institutes of Health.

The Keynote was followed by a dinner at the historic Severance Hall. During the dinner, 2018 Harrington Prize recipient Helen H. Hobbs, MD spoke about her career as a physician-scientist.

On day two of the Symposium, Chairman and CEO of Amicus Therapeutics, John F. Crowley, gave a luncheon presentation titled “When Drug Research is Personal” at the Cleveland Botanical Garden.
